Lyra Valkyria, born Aoife Cusack on October 23, 1996, in Dublin, Ireland, is a rising star in the world of professional wrestling. She began her wrestling journey in 2014, training at Fight Factory Pro Wrestling, and made her debut in 2015 under the ring name Valkyrie Cain on the European independent circuit. There, she earned recognition for her athleticism and charisma, performing with promotions like Over The Top Wrestling (OTT) and Pro Wrestling: EVE. She signed with WWE in January 2020, competing first as Aoife Valkyrie in NXT UK, where she went on an undefeated streak until 2021. After transitioning to WWE’s NXT in the United States as Lyra Valkyria in late 2022, she continued to impress with her agile and technical wrestling style. Her milestone achievement came in October 2023 when she defeated fellow Irishwoman Becky Lynch at Halloween Havoc to claim the NXT Women’s Championship. Following her NXT success, she moved to WWE’s main roster, capturing the inaugural Women’s Intercontinental Championship and the Women’s Tag Team Championship alongside Becky Lynch. Lyra is respected for her blend of technical skill and aerial maneuvers, her representation of Ireland on the international stage, and her incorporation of Celtic mythology into her character work—most notably inspired by The Morrigan. As of mid-2024, she remains a prominent figure in WWE, admired as a trailblazer for Irish women in professional wrestling.
