About Al Oerter's Height

Alfred Oerter Jr., known as Al Oerter, was a legendary American discus thrower and the first athlete to win four consecutive Olympic gold medals in the same individual event—between the 1956 Melbourne and 1968 Mexico City Games. Born in Astoria, Queens, New York City, he discovered his talent for discus at age 15 while at Sewanhaka High School and later attended the University of Kansas, where he became NCAA champion. Oerter gained fame when he won his first Olympic gold at just 20 years old, setting an Olympic record in 1956. He continued to dominate on the world’s biggest stage, triumphing at four straight Olympics, each time breaking the Olympic record—a testament to his supreme competitiveness and resilience, even overcoming severe injuries at the Rome and Tokyo Games. After retiring from athletics, Oerter became an engineer at Grumman Aerospace and blossomed as an abstract painter, sometimes using discus as a paintbrush. He is remembered for his humility and sportsmanship as much as his athletic feats. Oerter died on October 1, 2007, but his status as one of track and field’s all-time greats remains secure, inspiring generations of athletes.

Al Oerter stands at 6'4" (193 cm), which is well above average for a male. This is 18.0 cm taller than the average height for men(5'8.9" (175 cm)).
