About Hou Yifan's Height

Hou Yifan is widely regarded as one of the greatest female chess players in history. Born in Xinghua, Jiangsu Province, China, she began playing chess at six and quickly distinguished herself as a prodigy. By age 12, Hou became the youngest participant in both the Women's World Chess Championship and the Chess Olympiad. At 14, she earned the Grandmaster title, the youngest female to do so at the time. At 16, she became the youngest ever Women's World Chess Champion and ultimately won the title four times (2010, 2011, 2013, and 2016). Hou is known for her aggressive yet precise playing style and remarkable opening preparation, maintaining her status as the top-rated female player globally since Judit Polgár’s retirement. Outside women’s events, she has competed in open tournaments, achieving a peak FIDE rating of 2686 (March 2015) and ranking among the top 100 players regardless of gender. Academically, Hou holds a professorship at Shenzhen University and studied at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. Her influence extends beyond competition: she is an advocate for gender equality in chess and inspires young players through lectures and outreach work.
