Despite not being a full-time professional player—he works as a financial trader—McShane has consistently performed at an exceptionally high level. Notably, he tied for first place with Magnus Carlsen and Vladimir Kramnik at the prestigious London Chess Classic tournament in both 2010 (finishing third on tiebreaks) and had several other strong showings there.
