Socko earned her Woman Grandmaster (WGM) title in 1995 and later achieved the prestigious International Master (IM) title in 2003. In recognition of her outstanding performance against top-level competition—including male grandmasters—she was awarded the full Grandmaster (GM) title by FIDE in January 2008. Socko is also known for her deep theoretical knowledge and fighting spirit on the board. Her style combines solid opening preparation with tactical sharpness—a combination that has led to victories over many top players worldwide. Beyond competition play, Monika is married to fellow chess grandmaster Bartosz Socko; together they are considered one of Europe’s most prominent “chess couples.” She continues to promote chess among youth and women through coaching activities across Europe.
