Veronica Shanti Pereira is a trailblazing Singaporean sprinter who has redefined the nation’s athletics scene with her record-breaking performances and international accolades. Born on September 20, 1996, in Singapore, Pereira discovered her passion for sprinting at a young age after watching her sister compete. She attended the Singapore Sports School and later Nanyang Technological University. Pereira broke national 100m and 200m sprint records as a teenager and ended a four-decade gold medal drought in the 200m at the 2015 SEA Games. In May 2023, she made history with double golds in the 100m and 200m at the SEA Games, setting national records. Her crowning moment came with a 200m gold at the Asian Games, making her only Singapore's second-ever athletics gold medalist there. Known for her resilience through setbacks and inspiring the next generation, Pereira has established herself as a sporting icon in Singapore.
